Yuhei Higashikata

HIGASHIKATA Yuhei was born in 1982 in Sapporo, Japan and has been residing in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture since April 2017.
He completed his Ph.D. at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Film and New Media, where he honed his expertise in contemporary art practice and theory in 2022.
Renowned for his multidisciplinary approach to art, HIGASHIKATA engages in installations, performances, and community-engaging projects. His style of intervention utilizes a humorous approach to highlight imbalances and contradictions within the social system, often employing “play” as a cue.
Since 2017, he has spearheaded his own artist residency program ‘AIR-H’, playing a main role in planning and managing artist-in-residence initiatives.
HIGASHIKATA further enriched his international experience as a research fellow in the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan’s Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists. He conducted research and project at THEN Cafe and Hue University of Arts in Vietnam in 2021.
