The concept of Geo-magnetic Recordings appears as a myth in the film Dragonfly Eyes by Xu Bing. According to this myth, Geo-magnetic Recordings will cause certain geographical conditions to form, such as by a combination of weather, latitude, and a strong magnetic environment, formations appropriate for the past to replay itself in the form of sounds and visions.
When sounds are produced, can they be captured in any kind of material? The concept of Geo-magnetic Recordings opens up Colbie Fung Ho-pui’s imagination for the ways that sounds are stored. Through her field research at magnetite sites and transmitter stations in Hong Kong and Tokyo, Colbie has investigated how sound is transmitted through listening to stones.
Geo-magnetic recordings create an aim for human active listening. When you become sensitive, the world opens.
Whether an accurate science can be found in the end, all the gains from listening seem to be in the process, not just at the end.
