Eri Saito is a Japanese visual artist living and working in Kanagawa. Born 1991 in Fukushima. Graduated from Wako University, Department of Arts, Faculty of Representational studies, in 2015. Focusing on the video, she creates works themed on such invisible and uncertain dynamics as memory and cognition. Since 2022, Momoyo Iijima + Eri Saito have been conducting research and creating artworks on the theme of mixed-race children brought about by the ravages of war and the issue of microaggressions in our time, as considered in the wake of the Negishi Foreign Cemetery (Yokohama). Her recent exhibitions include “Whenever Wherever Festival 2023” (SHIBAURA HOUSE, Tokyo, 2023), ”WVlog: personal” (Art Center Ongoing, Tokyo, 2022), “Until It Gets Dark” (Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, 2021). Video works have been shown at occasions including “EAST EAST TOKYO” (Science Museum, Tokyo, 2023), “THE COMPULSIVE LANDSCAPE: ERI SAITO & MASANOBU NAKAMURA”, (Collaborative Cataloging Japan, Philadelphia, USA, 2022), Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions 2022 (Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Tokyo, 2022). She is concurrently engaged in exhibition in gallery spaces and screening in theater spaces.
