GEGERBOYO
GEGERBOYO is a collaborative project between Enka Komariah, Prihatmoko Moki, Anjali Nayenggita, Vendy Methodos (2017-2023), Dian Suci (2017-2022) and Ipeh Nur (2019-2022). Established in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in June 2017.
GEGERBOYO’s works are inspired by Indonesia, specially Javanese cultural traditions, urban culture, the
relationship between the two and correlation with current socio-political phenomena. GEGERBOYO’s
practical work method is similar as “ketoprak” performance, the members are responding to each other based on spesific theme which has been approved by the members.
GEGERBOYO is a vessel for experimentation, exchanging knowledge, also ideas, specially theme-related to Javanese culture, history and its development until present time.
The name “GEGERBOYO” is taken from the hill on Mount Merapi. A hill that protects the community around Mount Merapi from eruptions and hot clouds. Geger Boyo (Javanese) means; GEGER is the back, and BOYO is a crocodile, so Geger Boyo means “the back of the crocodile”. This long and jagged hill looks like a crocodile’s back.
